July 01--The Mount Prospect Police Department and the FBI are investigating a bank robbery that occurred Monday at a branch of the First Merit Bank.
Police responded to the bank robbery at 12:10 p.m. at the First Merit Bank's branch at 2100 S. Elmhurst Road, Officer Greg Sill said in a news release issued Tuesday.
Authorities said a man entered the bank, approached a teller window and grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash as it was being counted by the teller, Sills said.
The offender did not have any interaction with the teller and did not display or imply he had a weapon. He then fled the area, according to the release.
Police said the offender is described as a male about 20 to 30 years old and 6 feet tall with a medium, athletic build. He was wearing a black floppy hat with a Chicago White Sox logo, a white T-shirt with the word "NorthShore" on the front, black shorts and white shoes.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Mount Prospect Police Department Investigations Section at 847-870-5654. Anonymous tips can also be made to Crime Stoppers at 847-590-7867 or by texting the letters MPPD and their tip to 274637. Tips through Crime Stoppers are eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for any information leading to an arrest and prosecution, police said.
