Mouni Roy is all set to make her Bollywood debut with Akshay Kumar starrer Gold. The duo has been promoting their film with great enthusiasm. While a lot of media attention has been on Akshay and the boys—Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh and Vineet Singh—Mouni too has been in focus.
Ever since it was announced that she would star in Gold, there have been murmurs that her Bollywood career is being given a push by Salman Khan. The fact that she appeared in one of the episodes of Bigg Boss 11 with Salman, ensured that the rumour stayed afloat for a long time. Long enough for Mouni to express her hurt when such rumours again gained traction.
In an interview to Bombay Times, she not only rubbished such rumours, she also said that she’s hurt that despite having worked in the industry for 10 years as an actor and being a Bengali by birth, her landing the role of a Bengali woman called Monobina Das in Gold is being credited to Salman’s clout in the industry.

She said: “You should actually pose this question to Ritesh (Sidhwani, producer of Gold). Salman Khan has had no role to play in my Bollywood debut; I don’t know how these reports emerged and I wonder why anybody would do that for me. Is it so unbelievable that after acting for 10 years and being a Bengali, I can’t land a Bengali character’s role by myself? It was hurtful.”
She added how it felt bad that media chose not to give her due credit as an actor. “It was my moment, but they took it away from me.” She went to say that Salman is someone she “loves and respects immensely”. She said she has been a fan since she was a little girl and how she would collect his posters and pictures and that she didn’t want to take his name. However, she made it clear that his company had no role in her bagging any role.
“Let me clarify that I have not got a single call from Salman Khan’s production house for any role.”
