Moulton ends 2020 presidential campaign

August 23, 2019: Seth Moulton becomes sixth notable Democrat to suspend his presidential campaign. More than a dozen 2020 Democrats are in California for the party’s summer meeting. Bernie Sanders released a $16.3 trillion climate change plan.        Each Friday, we’ll highlight a presidential candidate’s key campaign staffer. The event is running from Thursday through Saturday. Joe Biden hired pastor Michael McClain to be his campaign’s faith outreach director. Biden will campaign in New Hampshire Friday and Saturday. Rep. Lou Carrea (Calif.) also endorsed Biden Thursday. CNN will host two town halls with Bill de Blasio and Steve Bullock Sunday. Ana Cabrera will moderate de Blasio’s town hall and Alisyn Camerota will moderate Bullock’s event. Pete Buttigieg will spend three days in New Hampshire with stops in Merrimack and Nashua Friday. He also unveiled a $300 billion plan to address mental health policy and the opioid crisis. John Delaney did not rule out a possible gubernatorial run in Maryland Thursday. “I’ve always believed in the Lincoln expression, which is, ‘You can only paddle to the next bend in the river.’ And so, I’m just paddling towards this bend,” Delaney said. Tulsi Gabbard was the inaugural interviewee for Rolling Stone’s new podcast, Useful Idiots. She discussed the 2018 Hawaii false missile alert and Syria. Kirsten Gillibrand tweeted that she had 115,000 donors, making her 15,000 donors away from the grassroots fundraising threshold for the September and October debates. Klobuchar will campaign in New Hampshire Sunday and Monday. Seth Moulton suspended his presidential campaign Friday. “I think it’s evident that this is now a three-way race between Biden, Warren and Sanders, and really it’s a debate about how far left the party should go,” he said in an interview with The New York Times.  Beto O’Rourke released his “21st Century Labor Contract,” calling for a $15 federal minimum wage, guaranteed collective bargaining rights, raising the overtime pay threshold to $50,000, and passing the Paycheck Fairness Act.
