Motorway services left without fuel including M6 and M56

Motorway service stations have run out of fuel at filling stations.

Travel monitoring service Inrix is reporting that both the Chester Services on the M56 and the Charnock Richard Services on the M6 have run out of fuel.

A statement reads: "No fuel available at Chester Services at the diesel pumps on M56 at J14 A5117. Next available services is Lymm Services at J9 (M6 Lymm Interchange).

"No fuel available at the diesel pumps on M6 Southbound at Charnock Richard Services. Located between J28 (Leyland) and J27 (Standish). Next available services is Lymm Services at J20."

The news comes after Boris Johnson urges people to go about getting petrol in their normal way and not panic buying.

The Prime Minister says that the situation on the forecourts is 'stabilising' and a Government source says troops are on hand to help.

A decision to put 150 military drivers on standby has been formally approved, meaning they can begin training in case they are required.

A further 150 drivers' mates are also ready to help out as part of the military effort, a source said: "They're still on standby but can now start training now it's approved."

Officials from the business department and the Ministry of Defence are working with the petrol industry on where the drivers will be best placed to support.

On Tuesday Mr Johnson tried to calm nerves about the supply chain problems affecting businesses across the country.

He said: "We now are starting to see the situation improve, we're hearing from industry that supply is coming back onto the forecourt in the normal way.

"And I would just really urge everybody to just go about their business in the normal way and fill up in the normal way when you really need it and you know, things will start to improve.

"What we want to do is make sure that we have all the preparations necessary to get through to Christmas and beyond, not just in the supply in the petrol stations, but all parts of our supply chain."
