Motorway reopened at Freemans Waterhole after a truck on fire prompted diversions

Traffic is returning to normal after a truck on fire closed the M1 Pacific Motorway on Monday night.

The northbound lane was closed between Freemans Drive and Palmers Road, with northbound motorists able to divert via Freemans Drive and Palmers Road to rejoin the M1 Pacific Mwy at Ryhope.

About 11pm, police and other emergency services were called to the incident.

Emergency services and traffic crews were still on the scene at 5.30am, Tuesday, and all northbound lanes had reopened by 7am.

Police said the driver was not injured and the trailer was the only part of the truck which sustained damage.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution and allow extra travel time.
