Motorway police thank lorry drivers who slowed down traffic while man was walking in the road

Motorway police officers have thanked lorry drivers who helped slow down traffic while a man was walking in the road.

The man was spotted walking between lanes on the M60 at around 2.45am this morning (Wednesday).

Lorry drivers then helped slow down the traffic at the scene at junction 12 for Manchester and Salford.

Motorway police arrived shortly afterwards and the road was completely blocked off in both directions while the man was taken to safety.

In a tweet, North West Motorway Police officers thanked the HGV drivers for their help.

"We are aware of a male pedestrian walking in the Live lanes on the clockwise and anti Clockwise on the M60 J12", the tweet read.

"Highways and police are in attendance.

"Thank you to the HGV Drivers that have tried to assist us by slowing the traffic down.

"Full block on both carriageways."

Later, an officer tweeted: "#M60 Clockwise and Anti Clockwise J12.

"The pedestrian walking in the live lanes is now with our officers and being taken off the network. Closures will be released.

"Once again, a huge thank you to the HGV drivers that slowed the traffic down until we arrived on scene."
