Motors left wrecked as five people rushed to hospital after horror crash on Scots road

Five people were rushed to hospital following a horror crash on a Scots road which left two motors completely wrecked.

Road cops in Ayrshire were alerted to the crash on the A77 south of Ballantrae at around 5.05pm on Wednesday August 31. Officers say a 24-year-old man was driving a white Toyota Yaris when the vehicle was involved in a crash with a blue Volvo V90, which was being driven by a 58-year-old woman.

Pictures from the scene show the white vehicle without a side door or roof, which can be seen lying on the grass next to the wreckage. Teams could be seen attending the Volvo, which had it's right hand door hanging off the side.

The 24-year-old man and a 85-year-old female passenger in the Volvo were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow by air ambulance for treatment. Hospital staff describe their condition as serious.

The 58-year-old woman and another female passenger in the Volvo, aged 32, were taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment. The 24-year-old male passenger in the Toyota Yaris was also taken to Crosshouse Hospital.

Police say that the road was closed for around six hours while investigations were carried out.

Sergeant Stewart Taylor said: "Our enquiries into the cause of the crash are continuing.

"I would ask any witnesses, or anyone with information that will assist our ongoing investigation to contact us.

"I would also ask anyone driving on that road around the time of the incident with dash-cam footage to get in touch."

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting reference number 2644 of Wednesday, 31 August, 2022.
