Motorists warned to leave extra time as M898 set to close overnight next month

Motorists have been advised to allow extra time for their journey, with the M898 set to be closed overnight next month.

The half-mile southbound stretch which connects the Erskine Bridge with the M8 will be closed for resurfacing works between 10pm and 6am from Thursday August 15 until Sunday August 18, with local diversions in place.

Omar Sarwar, assistant engineer at Scotland TranServ who are carrying out the work explained: “Scotland TranServ has been working in consultation with local authorities, emergency services and key stakeholders to carefully schedule this short programme of resurfacing works to be delivered with minimal disruption to commuters, businesses and holidaymakers.

“This is an important trunk road, connecting Dunbartonshire, Argyll and the Highlands with Glasgow and the busy Central Belt. Balancing the needs of maintaining the carriageway while limiting the impact on motorists is a challenge. To minimise disruption to the travelling public the short programme has been scheduled for after the school holidays.”

As well as allowing additonal time for their journey, drivers have also been reminded to keep up to date with the latest traffic and diversion information by visiting trafficscotland.org , Scotland TranServ or by following @trafficscotland on Twitter.
