Motorists warned of 10 days of delays on busy commuter route into Bristol

Motorists are being warned of delays on a busy commuter route into Bristol - as work begins to lay cabling along the route.

Work on installing ultra fast fibre broadband cables on the B3130 Bristol Road - a main commuter route into Bristol from Nailsea -  is due to start on Tuesday (April 9).

The work will be done under traffic light control and is expected to run until April 19.

This is when the new cycle path for South Bristol will be completed

Initially a notice had been put on North Somerset Council saying the busy commuter route was to close for several weeks for the work to be carried out.

However, investigations by the Bristol Post revealed that contractor Gigaclear had not been granted permission by the council for the full road closure.

Highways chiefs said that a month long closure of the route would never be allowed due to the disruption it would cause and any closure would only happen at weekends.

The weekend closure will involve 600 metre narrow section of Bristol Road by the Battleaxes pub close.

It is expected the closures will be over the first two weekends of June, to avoid the May Bank Holidays.

Council spokesman Richard Turner said: "Work on the B3130 is due to start on April 9 but will involve the use of temporary traffic lights.

"As for the weekend work, the road closure order has yet to be processed."
