Motorists walk dogs and play football on A30 after pile up stops traffic

A four-vehicle crash has stopped traffic on a major road with drivers leaving their cars to play football and walk their dogs.

One man is said to be trapped inside a car on the A30 near Exeter and traffic was brought to a standstill.

The accident happened at around 1.20pm today and people have decided to get out and enjoy the warm weather .

Drivers and their passengers have been stuck for well over an hour, while onlookers have also been seen on a nearby bridge, Devon Live reports.

A police spokesperson said: “We were called at 1220pm to a four-vehicle collision.

“One man is trapped, but everyone else is out. The road is blocked eastbound.”

A fire service spokesperson added: "We were called by police at 1230 to a four-vehicle RTC on the A30 eastbound near Exeter after one man was trapped inside a vehicle.

We sent two appliances and the road is completely blocked.

“We made the vehicles safe and a man was given oxygen.”

An eyewitness who is stuck in the traffic said: "Not sure what’s going on but standstill on A30 towards Exeter. Ambulance has just passed us.

"Three ambulances. Unmarked car and and now fire engines.

"Some are even walking their dogs."
