Motorist who was stopped driving his mother's van only had provisional licence and no insurance

A driver stopped at the wheel of his mother's van in Wythenshawe had no insurance and just a provisional licence.

Greater Manchester Police Traffic tweeted at 10.13pm on Wednesday that the man had no documentation "despite his lies to the contrary".

They said: "#GMPTransportUnit officers stopped this van in #Wythenshawe. Checks confirmed the driver only had a provisional driving licence and no insurance for his mum's van, despite his lies to the contrary.

"Sent on his way on foot in the rain awaiting his court date."

Uninsured drivers can face a fixed penalty of £300 and six points on their licence.

In cases that go to court uninsured motorists could be hit with an unlimited fine and face disqualification from driving.
