Motorist who didn't realise car was wrecked and shouted 'reverse, reverse' is charged by police

A driver has been charged after their car ploughed into a set of traffic lights in Rutherglen.

The bizarre accident took place at around 4.10pm on Thursday on Kings Park Avenue.

Police were called to the scene after the front end of the black car was completely smashed in after hitting the pedestrian crossing lights.

Investigators have confirmed that a 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the collision.

A video of the incident showed the bemused driver trying to get the car moving again despite the fact the bashed pole is indented in the bonnet, a front wheel is totally buckled and the bumper hanging off the car.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: Around 4.10 pm on Thursday, 15 October, 2020 police were called to a road crash in which a black car had collided with traffic lights on Kings Park Ave, Rutherglen.

"No injuries to the male driver nor the male passenger.

"A 36-year-old man has been arrested, charged and released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date for alleged road traffic offences."
