Motorist rushed to hospital following collision with power-line pole on A370

A motorist has been rushed to hospital following a collision with a telegraph pole in Cleeve.

The A370 was closed in both directions following the accident, which took place at around 8.40am this morning (May 31).

The accident has caused heavy congestion in the area and diversions for several First Bus services, as well as prompting a warning from Bristol Airport.

An ambulance spokeswoman confirmed that a woman was hospitalised after the crash.

"South Western Ambulance Service were called at 8.43am to reports of a road traffic collision," she said.

"We attended with an ambulance and one female patient was taken to hospital for further treatment."

A police spokesman added that the injuries are not believed to be serious.

"A woman driver complained of back and neck pain but does not appear to be seriously injured," he said.

"Car was in collision with a pole carrying power cable."

Avon and Somerset Constabulary warned motorists earlier that the road is likely to be closed "for the foreseeable future".
