A motorist on the M60 was written up by police officers — for running out of fuel.
Police say a motorist stopped on the motorway on their journey from Flixton to Preston.
The driver told officers they did not think any ‘24 hour petrol stations’ were open on that section of the motorway.
The BMW driver ground to a halt yesterday evening (July 29).
After making the unscheduled stop, officers say the driver bought fuel from a ‘24 hour petrol station round the corner’.
Cops then gave the motorist a traffic offence report (TOR).
“This vehicle ran out of fuel on M60 after driving to Preston - Flixton - Preston,” a post on social media, from Greater Manchester Police’s Traffic Division, said.
It added: “Driver stated ‘there ain’t any 24 hour petrol stations round here’.
“Fuel was eventually purchased… from a 24 hour petrol station, which was round the corner.
“[A] TOR [was] issued.”
TORs are given by officers at the roadside for a variety of motoring offences.
They include, but are not limited to, driving without tax or insurance, speeding offences, or travelling without wearing a seatbelt.
More serious incidents, like drink driving, driving while disqualified or careless driving, are not typically dealt with by TORs.
If you receive a TOR, there are generally three possible outcomes from the write-up, but can be more.
Those include being sent on an educational course, being handed a fine — also known as a fixed penalty notice — or being handed a court summons.
