Motorist hit with multiple fines after gardai find excuse for travelling to be untrue

Gardai fined a motorist in Laois earlier this week after they broke a multitude of rules and lied about their excuse for leaving their 5km limit.

Officers in Portlaoise first stopped the driver for speeding but found out they were a novice driver but not displaying N plates.

The vehicle didn't have an NCT for over a year either.

While gardai added the driver said they were going shopping, which they say was "untrue".

A garda spokesperson said: "Laois Roads Policing Unit on patrol this evening stopped a vehicle travelling 90kph in a 60kph zone in Portlaoise Town. The novice driver was not displaying N-Plates and their vehicle was out of NCT for nearly a year.

"The driver claimed their journey was to do some shopping however this was also discovered to be untrue. Vehicle was seized and a number of fixed charge notices on there way to this driver."
