Motorist fails roadside drugs check just two days after passing driving test

A motorist in South Wales has failed a roadside drug test - just two days after passing their driving test.

South Wales Roads Policing Unit shared details of the incident on social media in the early hours of this morning.

In a tweet at 2.22am this morning, officers said the rookie motorist was stopped due to their "manner of driving.

They said the driver had subsequently been arrested for a 'positive' DrugWipe test, which combines a sample from both saliva and a wipe across the skin.

The test's manufacturers say results from the DrugWipe Dual are very similar to that of a urine sample but without any of the inconvenience or cost.

"The test is also extremely sensitive and in just five minutes able to detect invisible traces of illegal drugs from any surface, liquid or substance, for example, Cannabis at a level of 5 ng/ml is a concentration equivalent to a teaspoon of sugar dissolved in an Olympic-size swimming pool," says DrugWipe's website.

Elsewhere on roads in Wales last night, police seized vehicles for a range of alleged offences following a car meet in Rassau, Blaenau Gwent.
