Motorist escapes unharmed after driving down Dublin road not realising car was on fire

A driver had a lucky escape last night after another motorist had to alert him the fact that his car was on fire.

Dublin Fire Brigade were called to Dolphin's Barn last night after a huge blaze erupted from the motorist's bonnet.

The incident happened on Davitt Road with firefighters later posting to say the driver was completely unaware of the fire until someone pointed it out to them.

DFB said: "Firefighters from Dolphins Barn extinguished a fire in the engine compartment of a car on Davitt Road overnight. The driver was alerted to the fire by another driver. No injuries."

It was a busy night for the DFB as two units were also called to Tallaght to tackle a blaze in someone's shed.

Hunt for gunman after shots fired at house on North Dublin street 

The heroic workers managed to stop the inferno before it spread to a neighbouring vacant house.

They said: "Last night, two crews from Tallaght fire station fought a fire in a domestic shed in Fettercairn.

"The fire was prevented from spreading to the vacant house on the property.

"High-pressure hose reels and a thermal imaging camera were used to fight the fire. There were no injuries."
