Motorist caught driving along M6 while watching England match on tablet

A motorist has been caught watching England's semi-final clash against Denmark while driving along the M6.

The vehicle was stopped by police on the busy motorway this evening.

Police said the driver - who was watching the match on a tablet - had been reported for the offence.

The Central Motorway Policing Group tweeted: "We know that tonight is an important night for football and everyone wants to watch the game.

"But watching it on a tablet while driving along the M6 is not the way...

"Driver stopped and reported for the offence."

Twitter user @JohnBow97215550 replied: "Own goal scored there then."

"Could you ask the chap who his service provider is?," @lozzyexotic added.

"Bet they were sitting in the middle lane too!," @barbs_paul said.

It comes after the Metropolitan Police said they had resources in place "to meet any demand placed on us by the semi-finals of the Euros".

The force urged fans to follow Government coronavirus guidelines and remain socially distanced.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor said: "The Met is very well prepared for the increase in fans. We have a very experienced policing team in place and will continue to prevent crime and disorder and respond effectively to any incidents. We have deployed a great many officers and specialist units.

"We want people to be able to enjoy the Euros 2020 safely and securely.

"London still remains in a public health crisis. There are Government guidelines in place and we ask people to follow these and remain socially distanced.

"My message is clear: If you don't have a ticket to the matches, fan zone or officially booked into a pub, bar or club, please do not come to London - you could end up missing the game."
