Motorist, 61, dies after tragic smash on Highlands road as police appeal for dashcam footage

Police are appealing for witnesses to a car crash that claimed the life of a man in the Highlands.

The 61-year-old was driving a silver Ford Mondeo estate on the A99 at Burrigill, near Lybster, on Saturday afternoon.

The alarm was raised at around 12.56pm and emergency services raced to the scene.

The driver was taken to Caithness General Hospital in Wick but tragically passed away a short time later.

Accident investigators closed down the road for around five and half hours to allow for a full collision probe to take place.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who may have seen the Ford Mondeo driving in the area around the time of the crash to get in touch.

They are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage that may assist with their investigation.

Police Sergeant, Angus MacLeod of Highlands and Islands Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are very much with the deceased’s family and friends at this time.

“We are appealing for any other road users who may have been in the area at the time and either saw the incident take place, or saw the silver Ford Mondeo prior to the crash, to please come forward.

“I would also ask if anyone has any dashcam footage that could assist with our investigation that they come forward and speak to officers.

“Police can be contacted by calling 101 and quoting incident number 1516 of Saturday 5 December, 2020.”
