Road chase maniac who smashed into cop car is jailed

A motoring maniac who rammed a police car during a prolonged chase on country roads and forest tracks was jailed yesterday.

Arran Kyle, 24, raced towards one cop car, reversed into a second encounter then tried to lose the police posse in a high-speed pursuit in the Trossachs in February 2019.

He was eventually found hiding behind a tree after trying to camouflage his car with branches.

The drama began after police saw Kyle’s Vauxhall Vectra driving on the A84 to Callander, Stirlingshire, and flagged him down for a routine check.

Kyle came to a brief stop “before taking off at speed” and hitting 60mph through residential areas of the town.

A chase ensued and at one point, Kyle reversed towards a police car and hit it, causing more than £4000 worth of damage.

At Falkirk Sheriff Court yesterday, Kyle, of Bellshill, Lanarkshire, pled guilty to dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.

Imposing a nine-month jail term and banning Kyle for three years, Sheriff Derek Hamilton said: “You put others in danger.”
