Motorcyclist thrown into air after crashing into car speeding on wrong side of road

Horrific dash cam footage has been released showing the moment a motorcyclist was flung 15 foot into the air after being by a speeding motorist driving on the wrong side of the road.

The unnamed rider suffered a broken back, sternum and wrist in the devastating smash.

The 35-year-old floor fitter from Barnsley is said to have only survived because he was wearing so much protective gear. His Suzuki K7 bike was completely destroyed.

The footage was released on Friday after driver Florian Pratt, of Nottingham, was jailed for 16 months at Sheffield Crown Court where he admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The 41-year-old of Nottingham was driving his high-powered Subaru car at 70mph in the Peak District when he lost control while taking a bend and swerved onto the wrong side of the road.

The speed limit was 60mph. The motorcyclist was travelling at a little over 40.

Sentencing, Judge David Dixon told him: “Anyone in control of a high-powered sports type car needs to be aware of the vehicle’s capability and their own capability. You failed to take any account of the bend.”
