Motorcyclist taken to hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries following crash in Rhondda

A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital by air ambulance after suffering serious injuries following a crash.

The motorcyclist has been taken to the University Hospital Wales in Cardiff with serious head injuries following the incident that happened in the Gelli Industrial Estate, Rhondda this morning.

A spokesman from South Wales Police described the incident as "serious" and an investigation is underway.

An air ambulance was seen landing near the scene at 12pm following the incident.

They said: "We can confirm a serious road traffic incident occurred in the Gelli Industrial Estate at approximately 11am today.

"A motorcyclist has been taken to the University Hospital of Wales by air ambulance with what has been described as a serious head injury and his family are aware.

"An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway."

Anyone who may have seen the incident is urged to call 101 and give reference 224247.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called today, 25 June, at approximately 10:23am to reports of an incident involving a single motorcycle at Gelli Industrial Estate.

"We responded with two emergency ambulances, one rapid response vehicle and were supported by Wales Air Ambulance.

"One patient was transported by road to the University Hospital of Wales.”
