A motorcyclist was left with a head injury after a collision with a car.

At about 4.15pm on Wednesday, police received a report of a crash between a motorcycle and a black Hyundai at the junction of Winskill Road and John Reid Road, in South Shields.

Emergency services attended the scene and the 18-year-old male motorcyclist was taken to hospital with a head injury. The driver of the car was uninjured.

Police are now appealing for information about the incident and any witnesses are being urged to come forward.

Speaking about the motorcyclist, a spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Thankfully his injuries were not considered to be life-threatening but he remains in hospital at this time where he is walking and talking.

"Enquiries into the circumstances around the collision are ongoing and now police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

"Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have head cam or dashcam footage that captured the incident, or the vehicles involved."

Anyone who can assist police is asked to make a report online at the Northumbria Police website.

People can alternatively call 101 and quote log 742 05/05/21 to help officers.
