A man was taken to hospital with non-serious injuries after a crash in Sunderland.

The collision, also involving a car and a motorbike, took place just before 8am on Tuesday on Sea Road, in Fulwell.

Emergency services arrived at the scene, between Annie Street and Chichester Road, and drivers were asked to avoid the area while they dealt with the incident.

The road was closed while the vehicles were recovered and it reopened to traffic later in the morning.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly before 8am today, we received a report of a collision involving a car and a motorcycle on Sea Road, Sunderland.

"Officers and emergency services attended the scene and the motorcyclist, a 41-year-old male, was taken to hospital for non-serious injuries and the vehicles were recovered. The road has since reopened to motorists."

The North East Ambulance Service confirmed that a male patient was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital.

A spokesperson added: "We were called at 7.53am to a road traffic collision involving a car and a motorbike on Sea Road.

"We disptached a doubled-crewed ambulance and two of our Hazardous Area Response teams. A male motorcyclist was transported to Sunderland Royal Hospital."
