A motorcyclist has suffered serious injuries following a crash in Cheetham Hill .
Police were called to reports of a road traffic collision between a motorcycle and a van on Waterloo Road at around 4.50pm on Thursday.
The male motorcyclist - whose age is unknown - was seriously hurt and taken to hospital.
His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Waterloo Road remains closed - and has been for almost three hours - following the incident.
Transport bosses are urging drivers to take an alternative route.
Traffic alerts are reporting 'very slow traffic' in the surrounding area.
A GMP spokesperson said: "The incident occurred just after 4.50pm this afternoon.
"It was a road traffic collision between a van and a motorcycle.
"The male motorcyclist was left with serious injuries.
"Enquires are ongoing at this stage."
