The male rider of the motorbike was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

His condition is not described as being life-threatening.

Officers scoured the scene for clues, with a motorbike seen in the middle of the road inside the cordon.

The incident occurred outside Broadhurst Park, FC United of Manchester's ground, as the Northern Premier League side hosted Ashton United.

The road remained taped off as supporters left the ground at full time, and later re-opened at about 7pm.

An air ambulance flew over the ground and onto a nearby park as the emergency services responded.

A GMP spokesperson said: "We were called at around 4.10pm on Monday 27 December to a report of a collision involving a car and a motorbike on St. Mary's Road, Manchester.

"The rider of the motorbike - a man - was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

"A suspected stolen motorbike was seized and the owner has been informed.

"A road traffic collision report was submitted."
