A motorcyclist driving on a footpath has been criticised on social media after a video posted online showed him deliberately running down a man at a bus stop in Bangkok’s Nang Loeng area.
The incident occurred on Feb 1 according to Facebook user Prasert Sae Ung, who posted the video on Thursday.
The motorcyclist, who had a pillion passenger, was using the footpath as a road and beeped his horn to get a man out of way as he went past a bus stop. The man called out, asking why he had beeped his horn when he was riding on the footpath anyway.
The motorcyclist and passenger rode past but minutes later returned and drove straight into the waiting man, knocking him to the ground. The two men on the bike then fled.
Social media users were strong in their condemnation of the men on the bike.
The injured man, Sasawasu Chamchongyon, 55, on Thursday told Thairath Online that he had spoken impolitely when the motorcyclist honked at him to get out of the way.
After the incident, his elder brother accompanied him to file a complaint at Nang Loeng police station. On Wednesday, police called the two sides in to settle their dispute. The motorcyclist offered him 5,000 baht to end the case, but his elder brother turned down the offer, the victim said.
