A motorcyclist attempting to bypass a railway barrier near the Makkasan station in Bangkok on Monday ended up losing control and crashing onto the tracks.
The incident occurred at the same location where a fatal collision in May raised concerns over road safety and motorists’ behaviour around railway crossings.
A video taken by a bystander shows the motorcyclist attempting to beat the barrier as it was being lowered, and after a flagman signalled traffic to stop. The attempt failed, with the rider and passenger falling onto the railway tracks. Neither was seriously injured.
The incident has drawn widespread attention online, with many commenters criticising motorists who prioritise speed over safety and traffic regulations, even after the tragedy that happened three months earlier.
On May 16, a collision between a train and a public bus at the crossing resulted in eight fatalities after the bus caught fire, making national headlines and prompting renewed concerns about safety at railway crossings.
The area around Makkasan is known for heavy traffic and congestion, particularly during peak hours.
