Motorcyclist killed in horror Athlone crash named and remembered as 'lovely young man'

A motorcyclist killed in a horror collision in Athlone has been remembered as a "lovely young man."

Seamus McCormack from Altown, Garrycastle, Athlone, in Westmeath died tragically on Wednesday when he was involved in a single-vehicle crash in his native county.

Mr McCormack, or Seamie, as he was affectionately known, leaves behind his loving fiancée Veronica Molloy and daughter Vaida, as well as his heartbroken parents Eamon and Geraldine, his brothers Edward, Ronan, Darragh and sisters Nicola and Colleen.

Dozens of heartfelt tributes and condolences have been paid to the young man, in his 20s, who sadly lost his life too soon.

Garrycastle GAA said: "The Garrycastle club are very saddened to hear of the tragic passing of Seamie McCormack, former player and dedicated club supporter. Deepest sympathy from all at the club to Seamies fiancée Veronica, daughter Vaida, parents, brothers, sisters and extended family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time."

One tribute described Seamie as an "absolute character." Another said: "Sad to learn of Seamie passing he was always such a quite friendly young man."

Another condolence recalled how Seamus was a "lovely young man."

Reposing for Seamus McCormack will take place at his residence (5 Altown, Garrycastle) on Friday from 3pm until 8pm.

Requiem Mass will be said in Our Lady's Queen of Peace Church, Coosan on Saturday at 10.30am after which Seamus will be laid to rest in his final burial place in Coosan Cemetery.

Offering condolences to the extended family, one person said Seamus will be remembered for his "kindness, wit and charming personality." Another said he was a "brilliant young man, who idolised his daughter."

"May his soul rest in peace. So young, so sad and untimely," one final tribute said.
