Motorcyclist killed in crash with van on A466 in Tintern, Monmouthshire

A 54-year-old motorcyclist has died after a crash with a van near Tintern.

A Gwent Police spokesman said officers received reports of a crash involving a motorbike and a van on the A466 near Tintern, Monmouthshire , shortly before 11.30am on Good Friday.

The spokesman said the motorcyclist, a 54-year-old man from Chepstow , was pronounced dead at the scene and his family are being supported by specially trained officers.

The A466 was closed in both directions for several hours on Friday while officers carried out inquiries. It re-opened at about 5.30pm.

The force is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash and who has not yet spoken with officers to get in touch with them.

Any drivers with dashcam footage of the area at the time of the crash have also been asked to come forward.

A force spokesman said: "Gwent Police is appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision which took place in Monmouthshire.

"The collision, involving a motorcyclist and a van, took place on the A466 near Tintern on Friday, April 2, shortly before 11.30am.

"The motorcyclist, a 54-year-old man from Chepstow, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family are being supported by specially-trained officers.

"We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision who has not yet spoken with officers to get in contact. Any motorists who may have any das-cam footage of the area at the time of the collision is also asked to come forward.

"The road was closed for investigation work but re-opened at around 5.30pm."
