Motorcyclist injured in serious crash on Gateshead's Saltwell Road now stable in hospital

A motorcyclist who was seriously injured in a crash in Gateshead is stable in hospital.

The biker suffered what police have described as 'serious life-changing injuries' in the crash on Saturday evening and has been undergoing treatment.

The collision happened on Saltwell Road South at around 7.45pm and was not believed to involve anyone else.

Northumbria Police confirmed on Monday that the biker was now in a stable condition and was no longer critically ill.

An appeal for witnesses to the crash has been made.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Police are appealing for witnesses for a collision involving a motorcycle on Saltwell Road South, Gateshead , on Saturday evening at about 7.45pm.

"Emergency services attended and the driver of the motorcycle was taken to hospital with what are believed to be serious life changing injuries.

"Inquiries are ongoing and anyone who saw what happened is being asked to contact police."

Officers would also like to hear from anyone who might have captured the collision on their dash cam.
