A motorcyclist who failed to stop for police collided with a silver car in a crash that for several hours.

The A64 York Road inbound, towards Leeds city centre, was closed after the incident at 11.23am on Tuesday and traffic diverted.

West Yorkshire Police said the motorcycle failed to stop for a police unit and was involved in a crash with a silver Suzuki car at York Road's junction with Osmondthorpe Lane, Leeds.

The rider and passenger on the bike then fled the scene.

A 29-year-old man was arrested nearby and taken to hospital treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The Leeds-bound carriageway remained closed while the scene was cleared and the vehicles involved recovered. The road reopened just before 4pm.

"The rider and passenger of the bike ran off from the scene. A 29-year-old man was arrested nearby in connection with the incident. He was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that were not considered life-threatening."
