Motorcyclist in hospital with 'serious injuries' after collision with car in Birtley

A motorcyclist is seriously injured in hospital after a collision with a car.

Windsor Road in Birtley was brought to a standstill on Friday afternoon after emergency services were called to the scene.

Police said a motorcyclist suffered suspected back injuries in the crash and has been taken to hospital.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "At about 3pm today (April 5), police received a report of a collision on Windsor Road, Birtley.

"Emergency services attended after a Ford Mondeo and Honda motorcycle collided.

"The driver of the motorcycle was taken to hospital with serious injuries."

A spokesperson for the North East Amublance service said paramedics had been called at 2.53pm "to treat a motorcyclist involved in a collision with a car".

One man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead with "suspected injuries to his lower back".
