A MOTORCYCLIST is in critical condition in hospital following a crash with a double-decker bus near a seaside town.
Emergency services were called to the A92 north of Arbroath at around 9.00pm on Friday following reports of a collision involving a blue Yamaha motorcycle and a double-decker bus.
The 37-year-old rider of the motorbike was taken to Ninewells Hospital following the crash where he has been described as being in a critical condition.
An ambulance and three fire appliances from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), along with a specialist heavy lifting vehicle, were all dispatched to the scene.
Police closed the Cauldcots junction on the A92 between Arbroath and Inverkeilor for more than eight hours while officers carried out their investigations.
Drivers were urged by police to avoid the area during the road closure, which has since reopened.
Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward as inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
A spokesperson for SFRS said: “We received a call at 9pm on Friday from the Scottish Ambulance Service for assistance at a crash on the A92 north of Arbroath.
“Three appliances, two from Montrose and one from Arbroath were sent to the scene.
“In addition, a heavy lifting vehicle was also despatched from Macalpine Road station in Dundee.
“Our stop call was issued at 9.49pm.”
Sergeant Brian McEwen from Police Scotland said: “Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and hasn’t already spoken to officers to get in touch.
“I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area and may have dashcam footage which could assist to contact us.”
