Motorbike ends up underneath bin lorry in dramatic crash as man taken to hospital

A motorcyclist was taken to hospital after a dramatic crash with a bin lorry.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, suffered injuries to his stomach and leg in the crash in Ainsdale at around midday today.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 12 noon after the crash on Heathfield Road, near its junctions with Anne Avenue and Mary Avenue.

Officers from Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service also attended the scene to deal with petrol which had spilled into the road and a section of road was cordoned off.

In a dramatic picture of the crash the rider’s bike can be seen underneath the bin lorry which is straddled across two lanes.

The rider of the motorcyclist was taken to Southport Hospital however is injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: "We were called just before midday to Heathfield Road to a collision involving a motorcycle and a bin lorry.

"The motorcyclist was conscious and breathing but was taken to hospital with grazes to his stomach and side and cuts to his leg.

"The road has been closed off. Fire and ambulance services are in attendance as well."
