Motorcyclist fighting for life after crash with van in Parkhead

A motorcyclist is fighting for his life after a serious crash with a van in Parkhead.

Westmuir Street in the east end of Glasgow was closed for around five hours overnight following the incident.

The 29-year-old motorcyclist is described as being in a critical condition at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The driver of the van was uninjured.

Police have launched an investigation into the crash.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.10pm on Friday, 25 September, 2020, we received a report of a serious crash involving a van and a motorbike on Westmuir Street, Glasgow, at the junction with Hart Street.

“The 29-year-old motorcyclist was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary Hospital where he is described as being in a critical condition. The driver of the van was not injured.

“The road was closed for around five hours and enquiries are ongoing.”

Glasgow City Council's Traffic Control and Management team advised: "Due to a serious RTC, Westmuir Street is closed in both directions at Crail Street.

"The road will remain closed for several hours.

"Drivers are advised to use an alternate route."

The road re-opened shortly before 7am this morning.
