Motorcyclist dies in South Shore crash

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash Wednesday in the South Shore neighborhood.

Steven V. Smith, 35, was riding a motorcycle northbound in the 6900 block of Stony Island Avenue when he was struck by a southbound Toyota Camry, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

The 37-year-old male driver of the Camry was trying to turn east onto 69th Street when he struck Smith about 9:50 p.m., authorities said. Both men had green lights.

Smith, who lived in the Far South Side Fernwood neighborhood, was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died 40 minutes later, authorities said.

An autopsy released Thursday found Smith died of multiple injuries from the crash, the medical examiner’s office said.

The driver of the Camry was taken to the same hospital for observation, police said. He was in good condition.

No citations were issued to the driver of the Camry, police said.
