Motorcyclist dies in M5 crash after hitting a barrier at junction 19

A motorcyclist has died following a crash on the M5 slip road for Portishead.

near to Gordano services shortly after 7pm yesterday (September 10).

The road was closed for more than five hours while police investigated the collision.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary confirmed this morning that the 52-year-old motorcyclist involved died after hitting a barrier.

“We were called to attend a single-vehicle collision which happened on the northbound entry slip road at junction 19 of the M5, at about 7.15pm on Tuesday (September 10)," a police spokeswoman said.



“A motorbike was in collision with a barrier resulting in the rider, a 52-year-old man from County Durham, suffering fatal injuries.

“If anyone saw this collision and has information which could help, please call the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5219209271.”

A spokeswoman for South Western Ambulance Service added: "We were called at 7.09pm to reports of a road traffic collision, reportedly involving a motorbike.

"We attended with two ambulances, HART (hazardous area response team), and two rapid response vehicles."
