Motorcyclist dies in Highland horror smash as cops lock down road for nine hours

A motorcyclist has died in a horror smash in the Highlands during the early hours of this morning.

Emergency crews raced to the one-vehicle crash on the A836 in Castletown’s Main Street. The crash is believed to have happened between 3am and 3.20am on Sunday.

The 30-year-old driver of a black Aprila SX125 motorbike was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers locked the road down for nine hours as investigations into the incident were carried out.

Drivers were able to use the road once again at around 12.30pm this afternoon.

Police Scotland has now launched a probe into the crash and is urging any witnesses to come forward with information.

Sergeant Kate Park, of Dingwall Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the motorcyclist.

“We are carrying out extensive investigations into the incident and we would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the rider and the motorbike prior to the crash.

“In particular we would like to speak to anyone who may have dash-cam footage that could help with our enquiries to get in touch.

“Anyone who can help our investigation is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0544 of 14 March.”
