NT Police are investigating a crash between a car and a motorbike in Darwin's rural area last night that killed a 22-year-old man.
The motorbike rider suffered fatal injuries in the accident on the Stuart Highway outside the Noonamah Tavern, about 40 kilometres south of Darwin, just after 7pm.
The driver of the car, a 74-year-old man, was injured, police said.
Watch Commander Josh Cunningham said the cause of the crash was still unknown.
Major crash investigators attended the scene, Mr Cunningham said, and worked through the night to establish the cause of the accident.
He said alcohol and drug tests returned negative, and that it did not appear that alcohol, drugs or speed were contributing factors in the crash.
"There's an investigation still underway and I really can't speculate on the cause currently," he said.
Traffic diversions were in place on the Stuart Highway until earlier this morning, but the road has since been reopened.
