Motorcyclist dies after hitting parked caravan

A motorcyclist has died after coming into contact with a parked caravan on a suburban road in south-west Lake Macquarie.

Emergency services were called to a scene in Mirrabooka, about nine kilometres east of Morisset, after reports of a crash about 1.30pm on Friday.

Police believe the motorcycle was travelling along Dandaraga Road before it struck the caravan, which was parked in the driveway of a home.

The 31-year-old rider died at the scene but is yet to be formally identified.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the crash.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
