Motorcyclist dies after coming off his bike in South Shields

A motorcyclist has died after coming off his bike in South Shields .

Police were called to Jarrow Road after reports of a single-vehicle collision shortly before 4pm on Sunday.

Northumbria Police said the rider suffered life-threatening injuries after coming off his bike.

A force spokesperson said: "Emergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital. Sadly, he has died from the injuries he sustained."

"Officers have informed his next of kin, and the family are receiving support from specialist officers. A formal identification process will now be carried out.

"At this stage, police do not believe there was any third party involvement."
