Motorcyclist dies after horror crash with van in East Ayrshire

A motorcyclist has died after his bike collided with a van in East Ayrshire last night.

The 51-year-old, who was riding a red Suzuki motorcycle, was involved in a collision with a white Mercedes Sprinter van on the A76 at its junction with the B713 for Catrine.

The incident happened shortly after 9.30pm last night (Saturday).

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 33-year-old male van driver was taken to Ayr Hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.

Police closed the road until around 5.40am this morning to allow for an investigation to take place at the scene.

Sergeant Ian Thornton of Police Scotland Road Policing said: "Our thoughts are with the man's family and friends at this difficult time.

"We are working to establish the full circumstances which led to this collision and would urge anyone with information to come forward.

"We would be keen to speak to anyone who saw either of the vehicles before the incident or who may have dashcam footage which could be of use.

"Anyone who can assist our investigation is asked to call 101, quoting incident 3937 of 13 June."
