Motorcyclist dead and woman in hospital after three-vehicle horror crash in Rhoose

A motorcyclist has died and a woman is in hospital after a three-vehicle crash near Cardiff Airport in the early hours of Tuesday.

A car, motorbike, and heavy goods vehicle were all involved in the crash which claimed the life of a 21-year-old man and left a woman aged 53 in hospital.

The A4226 in Rhoose was shut for 10 hours following the crash, which occurred at around 5.20am between the Rhoose roundabout and the British Airways Maintenance Centre roundabout.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: “A white Vauxhall Astra, a blue Honda motorcycle, and a heavy goods vehicle were involved in a collision. “As a result of the collision and despite the best efforts of attending emergency services the 21-year-old man who was the rider of the motorcycle was declared dead at the scene.

“The driver of the Vauxhall Astra, a 53-year-old woman, was taken to hospital where she remains receiving treatment.

“Officers investigating the incident would like to speak to any witnesses to the collision, anyone who may have dashcam footage of the incident, or anyone who witnessed the manner of driving of the Vauxhall Astra or Honda motorcycle prior to the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact the serious collision investigation unit quoting occurrence 2100410553.”

The road re-opened at around 3.20pm.
