Motorcyclist dead after crash on the M4 near Llansamlet, Swansea

A motorcyclist has died following a crash on the M4 near Swansea, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to the scene between J44 A4230 (Llansamlet) and J43 A465 (Llandarcy) at around 4.30pm on September 21.

Despite initial reports that the collision had involved a motorbike and a car, South Wales Police said only one vehicle was involved.

A force spokesman said: The incident involved a single vehicle, a motorcycle, being ridden by a 70-year-old male person.

“The male was declared deceased at scene."

Details on the make and model of the bike have not yet been disclosed by the police. However, officers are urging anyone with any information on the crash to speak to contact them.

The spokesman added: "We are are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or the manner the motorcycle was being ridden in prior to the incident and anyone with dash cam footage to get in touch quoting reference number 2000346169."

As of 10.30pm, police said the section of the motorway where the crash took place would be closed to "allow investigation work to be completed".
