Motorcyclist, 46, airlifted to hospital after crash in Mumbles, Swansea

A man has been airlifted to hospital after a crash involving a motorbike in Mumbles.

Emergency services, including the Wales Air Ambulance, were called to Plunch Lane at around 12pm on Monday, May 10 following reports of a single vehicle crash.

A 46-year-old man was airlifted to the University Hospital of Wales, in Cardiff, for further treatment. It is understood that the road was closed for some time following the incident.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: "South Wales Police was called at 12.19pm today (Monday, May 10) following reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision involving a motorbike on Plunch Lane, Mumbles. A 46-year-old man has been taken to University Hospital Wales via Wales Air Ambulance."

Wales Air Ambulance confirmed that its south Wales crew airlifted the man to hospital at 1.52pm.

A spokeswoman said: "Wales Air Ambulance attended an incident in the Mumbles area of Swansea today (Monday, May 10). Our south Wales based crew attended via a helicopter and a rapid response vehicle.

"Following treatment at the scene, we airlifted the patient to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. We left the scene at 1.52pm and arrived at hospital at 2.07pm. Our involvement concluded at 2.41pm.”

Paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service also responded to the incident with an emergency ambulance arriving at the scene.

A spokesman added: "We were called this afternoon, Monday, May 10, at approximately 12.16pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a motorcycle on Plunch Lane, Mumbles. We attended scene with one emergency ambulance, the Wales Air Ambulance and our emergency medical retrieval and transfer service.

"One patient was taken by air to University Hospital Wales, Cardiff, for further treatment."
