Motorcyclist, 32, dies after crash with stationary car in Ashington

A motorcyclist has died after crashing into a car in Ashington.

Darryl Townsley, 32, has been named as the rider of the motorbike which collided with the stationary vehicle on Green Lane at about 7.45am on Friday.

Emergency services were called to the scene but they were unable to save him and he died as a result of his injuries.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Officers can confirm a man has sadly died following a two vehicle road traffic collision in Ashington.

“Shortly after 7.45am today (Friday) we received a report a motorbike had collided with a stationary car on Green Lane.

“Emergency services attended but sadly, Darryl Townsley, the 32-year-old rider of the motorbike died at the scene as a result of his injuries. His family are being supported by specialist officers and we ask their privacy is respected at this difficult time."

Green Lane was closed on Friday morning as a result between Kenilworth Road and North Seaton Road but it has since been reopened.

Now police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage to come forward.
