Motorcyclist, 21, seriously injured in smash with car on Snake Pass after 'loss of control'

A motorcyclist has been left seriously injured after a 'loss of control' led to a crash with a car on the A57 Snake Pass.

The smash happened on the major road - which links Manchester to Sheffield - at around 2pm yesterday (Saturday). The Manchester Evening News understands it happened on the stretch of the road near to the Wildman Cafe.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Police confirmed this morning that a motorbike and car were involved. The 21-year-old biker 'lost control' and 'collided with a car that was coming the other way', the spokesperson said.

He was taken to hospital from the scene by emergency services. The police spokesperson said his injuries were initially believed to be life-threatening, but have now been confirmed as serious.

A stretch of the road was blocked off for some time after the crash. Motorists reported heavy traffic throughout the afternoon.

The Snake Pass was reopened on March 29 after a landslide forced it to shut to vehicles for more than five weeks. Some restrictions remain in place on the road after it was battered by Storm Eunice and Franklin.
