Motorcycling near misses: share your experiences

On this day a year ago I was lying on the road after colliding with a car. I was on a motorbike. The driver of the car didn’t look before turning and I went over the bonnet and face first into the road. I was lucky to be alive.

After reading an article written by Rachel Aldred on cycling near misses, I began to wonder what motorcyclists would say if they were asked about their experiences. I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve watched other riders swerve as a car’s pulled out of a junction, or change gear to avoid being squeezed between a lorry and a bus.

Have you narrowly avoided a collision whilst riding in a rural area or in the city? If so, what happened and how did it affect you? Have you stopped riding because of it? We’d also like to hear from you if you have been in a motorbike-related accident. Do you still ride? If you do, has anything changed?

You can share your experiences by clicking on the blue ‘Contribute’ button on this article. You can also use the GuardianWitness smartphone app or the Guardian app and search for ‘GuardianWitness assignments.’ If you’d prefer you can email us on guardian.witness@theguardian.com
