A man stopped at Gateshead is among the latest to be fined for breaching the NSW government's COVID-19 restrictions.
Police are enforcing the law brought in amid the ongoing global pandemic, which means people have to stay home unless completing an essential task.
Police stopped a motorcycle rider on Oxford Street at Gateshead just before 10pm on Wednesday.
"Officers spoke with the 36-year-old man, who allegedly provided multiple conflicting reasons for not being home before stating he was on his way to help a friend fix a bike," NSW Police said.
"The officers deemed his reasons for travel as non-essential and issued the man with a $1000 PIN [on-the-spot fine.]"
Police have issued 12 Court Attendance Notices and 151 fines across NSW for breaches of the Public Health Act since March 17.
